چکیده

Introduction: The occurrence of disasters and mass casualty incidents (MCIs) is on the rise, thus training rehearsal for disaster response remain paramount. Virtual reality (VR) platforms have previously been shown to be well-received, engaging, immersive training. primary objective this study was ascertain if a human actor-based VR MCI scenario could elicit sympathetic response, as measured by heart rate variability (HRV), in medical doctors trainees compared baseline state. Method: A simulation filmed with students, residents, surgeons GoPro 360 camera. Subjects (n=35) were recruited sufficiently power (1-b=0.8) Wilcoxon matched-pairs test Welch’s t-test. watched an Oculus Quest headset while having HRV recorded. Multivariate logistic regression performed identify factors associated increased odds significant activation. Statistical significance established at p<0.05. Results: Thirty-five subjects enrolled included three trauma surgeons, emergency medicine (EM) attendings, eight EM six surgery 15 students. decrease observed across all groups (median 20 ms IQR 16.2, 31.4 ms) (33.2 27.2, 44.1 ms; p<0.0001). Sympathetic activation most pronounced then residents. There no difference fold-difference physicians (-48.5% +/- 32.1%) versus (-49.5% 25.2%; p=0.57). In groups, SNS occurred independently rate, age, sex, number years practice, first responder experience, or prior response. Conclusion: Live-actor elicited strong from attending physicians. By recruiting disinhibiting essential neural pathways via controlled activation, has potential enhance encoding consolidation low-cost reproducible manner.

Comparing the Training of the Mass Casualty Incident Triage by the Virtual Workshop and Non-virtual Workshop (Face-to-Face) on the Nursing Students' Learning and Satisfaction

Introduction: Workshop training is one of the most effective learning methods. This study aims to compare the effect of virtual and face-to-face workshop training on students' learning and satisfaction. Methods: A three-group intervention study with before and after measurements was conducted with the participation of 106 nursing students. A convenient method of assigning replacement blocks wa...

Mass Casualty Incident Response and Aeromedical Evacuation in Antarctica

Antarctica is one of the most remote regions on Earth. Mass casualty incident (MCI) responses in Antarctica are prone to complications from multiple environmental and operational challenges. This review of the current status of MCI risks and response strategies for Antarctica focuses on aeromedical evacuation, a critical component of many possible MCI scenarios. Extreme cold and weather, a lack...

Modeling Uncertain and Dynamic Casualty Health in Optimization-Based Decision Support for Mass Casualty Incident Response

When designing a decision support program for use in coordinating the response to Mass Casualty Incidents, the modelling of the health of casualties presents a significant challenge. In this paper we propose one such health model, capable of acknowledging both the uncertain and dynamic nature of casualty health. Incorporating this into a larger optimisation model capable of use in real-time and...

Mass Casualty Incident Management in Military Medical Facilities: Strategies for Improvement

A mass casualty incident (MCI) is that which requires a response beyond standard deployment. These can result from natural or artificial events. Casualties can present in peacetime or be evacuated from battle fields. Mass casualty management in most military health facilities in developing countries is not optimal. There are challenges occasioned by dearth of trained, specialized manpower, lack...
